Code of Conduct

Last reviewed: 14th April 2026

1. Purpose

This Code of Conduct sets out the behavioural standards that govern participation in The House of Motive (THOM).

Its purpose is to protect the integrity, safety, and effectiveness of the community and to provide clarity for members and leadership alike.

Membership of THOM is conditional. Continued participation depends on adherence to these standards.

This Code applies to all members and to any individual participating in THOM activities, spaces, or events, whether on a permanent, temporary, or invited basis.

This Code forms part of the framework governing membership and should be read alongside THOM’s Terms and Conditions.

For the purpose of this Code, “Member” has the meaning given in THOM’s Terms and Conditions and includes any individual holding House Membership or Founders Membership, together with any invited or temporary participant in THOM activities, spaces, or events where this Code is stated to apply.

2. Nature of the Community

THOM is a private membership community for men who have chosen to live without alcohol.

The House is built around forward momentum and accountability, and exists for men who are ready to raise their standards and contribute to a purposeful environment alongside others doing the same.

THOM is not designed as therapy, recovery, or a support group.

It is an environment for men who have already chosen to move beyond alcohol and are prepared to build what comes next. Members are therefore expected to regulate themselves appropriately and engage with maturity.

3. Core Expectations of Members

All members are expected to:

  • Take responsibility for their behaviour, language, and impact on others
  • Act with respect toward fellow members, even in moments of disagreement or challenge
  • Engage in good faith and without manipulation, intimidation, or dominance
  • Respect the confidentiality and private nature of the community
  • Maintain appropriate boundaries in all THOM spaces and interactions
  • Participate in a manner consistent with the purpose of the House, contributing where appropriate and respecting the shared time, effort, and energy of others

These expectations apply at all times and are not limited to formal THOM activities.

4. Standards of Behaviour

The standards below are applied with regard to context, intent, impact, and pattern of behaviour. THOM assesses conduct in a considered and proportionate manner.

4.1 Communication and Interaction

Members are expected to communicate respectfully across all THOM channels, including live calls, messaging platforms, written communication, and in-person discussions.

Robust discussion and constructive challenge are welcome and form part of the House culture. Challenge should be proportionate, relevant, and delivered in a manner that does not seek to dominate, belittle, intimidate, or undermine others. Conduct that materially erodes trust, respect, or the integrity of the environment is not acceptable.

These expectations apply to interactions between members that arise through THOM, even where those interactions occur outside formal THOM platforms or events.

THOM does not supervise or control private interactions between members. However, conduct arising through THOM may be addressed where it materially affects the safety, integrity, or cohesion of the community.

4.2 Confidentiality and Discretion

THOM is a private community. Members must not share, paraphrase, summarise, or otherwise disclose personal information, conversations, or materials originating within THOM outside the community without explicit consent. This includes recorded meetings and calls.

Members must not record THOM sessions or reproduce THOM materials except where explicitly permitted.

Members should exercise discretion when referencing experiences originating within THOM, even where individuals are not named.

Breaches of confidentiality are treated seriously and may result in immediate action.

4.3 Boundaries and Safety

Members are expected to respect personal, physical, and psychological boundaries at all times, particularly during in-person events, experiences, and trips, as well as in online settings.

Any behaviour that reasonably compromises the safety, dignity, or wellbeing of others is unacceptable.

Unwanted personal, sexualised, or overly intrusive behaviour, whether verbal or physical, is not acceptable.

These standards apply equally to House Gatherings, THOM Experiences, and other Activities as defined in THOM’s Terms and Conditions.

Members organising, supporting, hosting, or attending House Gatherings, THOM Experiences, or other Activities are expected to uphold the standards of this Code in full.

4.4 Alcohol and Substances

Alcohol and illicit substance use is not permitted in THOM-designated spaces, Activities, or events. Attendance while under the influence may result in immediate removal and may be treated as a breach of this Code. Members are expected to respect the alcohol-free nature of the community.

4.5 Raising Concerns

Members are expected to act responsibly where they become aware of conduct that may breach this Code or undermine the integrity of the community.

Concerns may be raised directly with THOM leadership or through any designated communication channel established for this purpose.

4.6 Respect, Dignity, and Difference

THOM is built around alignment and shared standards, not background. Differences in experience, perspective, and identity are expected within the House and do not dilute standards; only behaviour does.

All members are expected to treat others with dignity and respect, regardless of race, ethnicity, nationality, sexuality, religion, disability, age, or socioeconomic background.

Discriminatory, demeaning, exclusionary, or contemptuous behaviour, whether explicit or implicit, intentional or unintentional, is incompatible with THOM and will not be tolerated.

Standards of behaviour apply equally to all members. No individual is exempt by status, tenure, confidence, or contribution.

THOM exists to challenge men to rise. That challenge must never come at the expense of another member’s dignity or safety.

5. Prohibited Conduct

The behaviours listed below are considered serious departures from the standards of the House. Whether conduct amounts to a breach will be determined with reference to context, intent, impact, severity, and pattern.

The following behaviours are not acceptable within THOM:

  • Harassment, intimidation, or repeated disregard for stated personal boundaries
  • Discriminatory, demeaning, degrading, or exclusionary conduct towards others
  • Aggressive, coercive, threatening, or deliberately undermining behaviour
  • Breaches of confidentiality, including the sharing, paraphrasing, or misuse of private information obtained through THOM
  • Alcohol or illicit substance use in THOM-designated spaces, activities, or events
  • Retaliation against any individual for raising concerns in good faith
  • Attempts to undermine, campaign against, or deliberately relitigate enforcement decisions in a manner that erodes trust or cohesion within the community

5.1 Commercial Activity and Self-Promotion

THOM encourages members to build businesses, develop ideas, and support one another professionally.

However, unsolicited commercial activity, persistent self-promotion, or behaviour that prioritises personal gain over the health of the community is not permitted.

Professional collaboration should be reciprocal, transparent, and aligned with the interests of the House and its members.

Repeated or unsolicited promotion, pressure to engage commercially, or use of THOM spaces primarily as a sales channel by individual members, without prior authorisation from THOM management - particularly where prior guidance has been given - may be treated as a breach of this Code.

This restriction does not apply to communications, offers, or commercial activity led by THOM itself, or to activity explicitly invited, approved, or facilitated by THOM as part of its programmes, events, or operations.

5.2 Conflicts of Interest

Members must be transparent where personal, financial, or professional interests could reasonably be perceived to influence their behaviour or decisions within THOM.

Undisclosed conflicts that undermine trust or distort decision-making may be treated as a breach of this Code.

6. External Representation

Members are free to express personal views, experiences, and opinions in public settings, including on social media and in third-party contexts.

However, members must not present personal views as representative of THOM, imply endorsement by THOM, or speak on behalf of the organisation without explicit authorisation.

Where members reference THOM publicly, they are expected to do so responsibly and in a manner consistent with the values and standards of the House.

Conduct that materially damages THOM’s reputation through unlawful, deceptive, or malicious behaviour, misrepresents its purpose, or creates public confusion regarding its position may be treated as a breach of this Code, whether it occurs within or outside formal THOM spaces.

7. Discretion, Enforcement, and Authority

THOM has a responsibility to protect the integrity, standards, and long-term health of the community. In doing so, it retains discretion to interpret and enforce this Code in the interests of the House as a whole.

Decisions relating to conduct will be made in good faith, with regard to context, intent, impact, severity, and pattern of behaviour.

THOM is not required to follow a staged or progressive enforcement process and may act immediately, including without prior notice where reasonably necessary to protect members or the community, where conduct is considered serious, cumulative, or materially damaging.

Action may be taken where behaviour falls short of expected standards.

Responses may include, but are not limited to:

  • Informal guidance or correction
  • Formal warnings
  • Temporary suspension
  • Removal of membership

Decisions are made with proportionality and judgement. While feedback may be provided where appropriate, enforcement decisions are final and are not subject to formal appeal.

Patterns of behaviour, including repeated low-level conduct that cumulatively undermines trust or standards, may be treated as a breach of this Code.

Nothing in this Code limits THOM’s ability to take action where conduct falls outside its values but may not be explicitly listed.

THOM is not required to provide detailed reasons for enforcement decisions where doing so may compromise confidentiality or the integrity of the community.

8. Membership and Alignment

Membership of THOM is based on continued alignment with the standards and expectations set out in this Code.

THOM exists to protect a specific culture and level of responsibility. Where conduct constitutes a serious or repeated breach of this Code, or is reasonably considered incompatible with the safety, integrity, or effective operation of the House, access to the community may be withdrawn in order to preserve the integrity of the House. Withdrawal of access includes removal from Activities and Digital Platforms.

Any such decision will be made in good faith and in the interests of the community as a whole.

9. Acknowledgement

By participating in THOM, members confirm they have read and understood this Code of Conduct and accept the standards it sets out.

Membership reflects the shared commitment to uphold these standards in good faith and to contribute to the integrity of the House.

This Code exists not simply to regulate behaviour, but to protect the environment that allows members to challenge themselves, build momentum, and move forward together.

10. Review and Updates

THOM may review and update this Code of Conduct from time to time to ensure it remains aligned with the needs and direction of the community.

Material updates will be communicated to members through appropriate channels.

Continued participation in THOM following such updates constitutes acceptance of the revised Code.

Members are expected to familiarise themselves with the current version.
